Truck loans finance medium and heavy commercial trucks used for long-haul or regional freight (HCV / multi-axle and similar). Tickets are larger than light CV finance, rates often sit near commercial vehicle bands and tenures usually stretch a bit longer (often about 5–7 years, sometimes up to 8). This page uses the same reducing-balance formula as our EMI calculator, with defaults suited to a typical financed truck ticket.

What truck loan EMI includes
EMI means equated monthly instalment: one payment each month that covers interest on what you still owe plus a slice of principal. Under a fixed-rate sketch the rupee amount stays flat for the tenure you enter.
Truck loan EMI on this page does not include processing fees, dealer charges, insurance premiums, body or trailer building, permit fees, GPS / tracking kits, GST on lender charges or floating-rate resets. Invoice price, margin money and financed principal
Invoice or on-road price is what you pay to take delivery after taxes and typical dealer add-ons. Margin money (down payment) is your cash share. Financed principal is what the lender funds after margin and after any loan-to-value limit for the truck type.
Example: invoice ₹36 lakh with ₹6 lakh margin means about ₹30 lakh financed if LTV supports it. Putting the full invoice here overstates EMI. Enter the amount you will actually repay as principal.

What the default result means
Using the page defaults on first load (₹30,00,000 · 10% p.a. · 7 years / 84 months), this calculator shows monthly EMI ≈ ₹49,803.55, total interest ≈ ₹11,83,498.37 and total payment ≈ ₹41,83,498.37.
Interest is about 28.3% of total repayment, or roughly ₹39.45 of interest for every ₹100 borrowed. Total payment is about 1.39× principal. On this default sketch, interest does not exceed the principal itself.
Decision angle: a mid truck EMI at 10% for seven years still sends more than one-fourth of every repaid rupee to interest, before fees or financed body work. Ask whether financed amount (after margin money) is what you entered. Raising the margin so financed principal falls by ₹5 lakh (₹30 lakh → ₹25 lakh at the same 10% / 7 years) lowers EMI by about ₹8,301 and interest by about ₹1,97,250. Situation: the same financed truck ticket; only the repayment clock changes while monthly cash flow and asset life are the constraints.
Only tenure changes. Principal ₹30,00,000 and rate 10% p.a. stay fixed.

Why EMI falls when tenure rises: the same principal is spread over more months. Interest still accrues every month on the outstanding balance, so a longer clock raises total interest.
Decision angle: 5 years costs about ₹13,938 more per month than 7 years, yet saves roughly ₹3,59,030 in interest. Dealer “low EMI” vs bank reducing balance
Some truck dealers quote a soft EMI using a flat rate on the original principal for the full tenure, or they mix body / trailer fabrication and fees into a marketing rate. Bank and NBFC term loans are usually priced on reducing balance: interest each month is only on what you still owe.

Body, trailer, insurance and add-ons in the loan
Dealers and body builders often offer to bundle body or trailer fabrication, insurance, GPS or accessories into the loan. That raises financed principal, so EMI and total interest rise even when the “chassis price” on the poster looks unchanged.

Typical truck loan tenures (about 5–8 years)
Most truck finance in India clusters in a mid band a bit longer than LCV offers. This tool caps tenure at 8 years. Holding rate and amount fixed:
- Shorter tenure (toward 5 years) → higher EMI, lower total interest, faster clear while the asset still earns.
- Mid tenure (about 7 years) → a common balance of instalment size and interest on this page’s defaults.
- Longer tenure (toward 8 years) → lower EMI, higher total interest, longer monthly obligation on a working asset.

Freight cash flow vs EMI
A truck must earn enough after fuel, driver pay, tolls, maintenance and downtime to cover EMI. Stretching tenure to soften the instalment can still leave thin margins if utilisation is weak.
Size EMI against realistic monthly net freight income, not peak weeks. Keep a buffer for repairs and idle days. Do not treat “zero down marketing” as free capacity.

Eligibility asks what a lender’s income, credit, body type and obligation rules might allow for a truck loan. Affordability asks what your monthly freight cash flow can carry after fuel, maintenance, existing EMIs and a downtime buffer.

When a lower EMI is not better
A lower EMI usually means you stretched tenure, cut principal or accepted a flat marketing quote, not that the loan got cheaper. On the ₹30 lakh · 10% sketch above, about ₹45,522 for 8 years costs far more interest than about ₹63,741 for 5 years.
