Commercial vehicle loans finance light and medium goods or passenger CVs used for business (pickups, LCVs, small trucks, tempo-style vans and similar fleet assets). Tickets are larger than passenger-car finance, rates often sit a bit above retail car offers and tenures usually stay short-to-mid (often about 3–5 years, sometimes up to 7). What commercial vehicle loan EMI includes

EMI means equated monthly instalment: one payment each month that covers interest on what you still owe plus a slice of principal. Under a fixed-rate sketch the rupee amount stays flat for the tenure you enter.

Invoice price, margin money and financed principal

Invoice or on-road price is what you pay to take delivery after taxes and typical dealer add-ons. Margin money (down payment) is your cash share. Financed principal is what the lender funds after margin and after any loan-to-value limit for the body type.

Example: invoice ₹18 lakh with ₹3 lakh margin means about ₹15 lakh financed if LTV supports it. Putting the full invoice here overstates EMI. Enter the amount you will actually repay as principal.

What the default result means

Using the page defaults on first load (₹15,00,000 · 10.5% p.a. · 5 years / 60 months), this calculator shows monthly EMI ≈ ₹32,240.85, total interest ≈ ₹4,34,451.03 and total payment ≈ ₹19,34,451.03.

Interest is about 22.5% of total repayment, or roughly ₹28.96 of interest for every ₹100 borrowed. Total payment is about 1.29× principal. On this default sketch, interest does not exceed the principal itself.

Decision angle: a mid LCV EMI at 10.5% for five years still sends about one-fifth of every repaid rupee to interest, before fees or financed body work. Ask whether financed amount (after margin money) is what you entered. Raising the margin so financed principal falls by ₹3 lakh (₹15 lakh → ₹12 lakh at the same 10.5% / 5 years) lowers EMI by about ₹6,448 and interest by about ₹86,890. Situation: the same financed CV ticket; only the repayment clock changes while monthly cash flow and asset life are the constraints.

Why EMI falls when tenure rises: the same principal is spread over more months. Interest still accrues every month on the outstanding balance, so a longer clock raises total interest.

Decision angle: 3 years costs about ₹16,513 more per month than 5 years, yet saves roughly ₹1,79,319 in interest. Dealer “low EMI” vs bank reducing balance

Some CV dealers quote a soft EMI using a flat rate on the original principal for the full tenure, or they mix body fabrication and fees into a marketing rate. Bank and NBFC term loans are usually priced on reducing balance: interest each month is only on what you still owe.

Body building, insurance and add-ons in the loan

Dealers and body builders often offer to bundle body fabrication, insurance, GPS or accessories into the loan. That raises financed principal, so EMI and total interest rise even when the “chassis price” on the poster looks unchanged.

  • Shorter tenure (toward 3 years) → higher EMI, lower total interest, faster clear while the asset still earns.
  • Mid tenure (about 5 years) → a common balance of instalment size and interest on this page’s defaults.
  • Longer tenure (toward 7 years) → lower EMI, higher total interest, longer monthly obligation on a working asset.

Trip cash flow vs EMI

A commercial vehicle must earn enough after fuel, driver pay, maintenance and downtime to cover EMI. Stretching tenure to soften the instalment can still leave thin margins if utilisation is weak.

Size EMI against realistic monthly net trip income, not peak weeks. Keep a buffer for repairs and idle days. Do not treat “zero down marketing” as free capacity.

When a lower EMI is not better

A lower EMI usually means you stretched tenure, cut principal or accepted a flat marketing quote, not that the loan got cheaper. On the ₹15 lakh · 10.5% sketch above, about ₹25,291 for 7 years costs far more interest than about ₹48,754 for 3 years.
